WindCurrent Greens the U.S. Green Building Conference Green Build
BALTIMORE, MD (11/11/09) - Baltimore-based WindCurrent, a provider of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), announced today that they are greening the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) annual Greenbuild International Conference & Exposition, which begins today in Phoenix, Arizona.
“WindCurrent has provided RECs for the annual GreenBuild event since 2006, and we are proud to be selected as the provider again this year,” said Jim Maguire, President of WindCurrent. “Based on projected attendance and energy consumption at the GreenBuild Conference, we are helping to offset the production of 4,200,000 pounds of carbon dioxide, which is the equivalent to taking 269 cars off the road for a year.”
WindCurrent’s green energy came from Green-e certified wind farms in the eastern United States.
Greening this year’s conference has offset 100 percent of the greenhouse gas, sulfur dioxide, and mercury emissions, as well a portion of the nitrogen oxides emissions associated with the event. Due to this emission reduction achievement, Greenbuild 2009 earned Gold-level certification through the Cleaner and Greener® Program.
This year, former Vice President Al Gore will provide the conference keynote address.
