National WindCurrent is a renewable energy certificate product. For every unit of electricity generated from renewable sources, an equivalent amount of renewable certificates, or Green Tags, is produced. Your purchase of National WindCurrent supports new renewable electricity generation, which helps offset the environmental effects of burning coal, gas and other fossil fuels in the Mid-Atlantic. Also, your purchase helps to grow the market for renewable electricity. Important: You will continue to receive a separate electricity bill from your utility company.

This product matches the amount of your monthly electricity usage that you specify on the Order Form. As a residential customer, you can subscribe at any of these levels: (1) Select 25%, 50% or 100% of your estimated usage. Or (2) specify a Basic Block of 400 kWh per month. Or (3) select any level per month over 400 kWh, in 100 kWh increments. One-time purchases are also available, with a minimum of 2000 kWh. Any of these options cost 2.5 cents per kWh.

We use wind turbines in the Mid-Atlantic and the Midwest. Our product is made up of the following new renewable resources:

"New" indicates renewable generators that first started operating on or after May 1, 1999. These facilities help to change the overall energy mix toward more renewables and less burning of fossil fuels.

For comparison, the current average mix of energy sources supplying the US includes: Coal (52%), Nuclear (18%), Oil (2%), Natural Gas (8%), Large Hydroelectric (10%), Other Fossil (8%), and Renewables (2%). (from US EPA E-GRID)

If you subscribe, you can pay quarterly on your credit or debit card (online), or by automatic quarterly deduction from your checking account (see the Mail-In Form). [Minimum participation is 400 kWh/month, or $30/quarter.] For a one-time purchase, you can use the Mail-In Form and pay by credit card or check. [For a one-time purchase, minimum participation is 2000 kWh.] Our goal is to do business strictly by paper-free methods, but we can accommodate almost any request.

We do not foresee ever raising these rates. If we do, we will provide subscribers with at least 90 days advance notice.
